LFA Analysis and its Applications for the Development of Innovative Raw Materials

Filler type, filler content and filler orientation: everything plays a role when it comes to tailoring thermal conductivity of polymers for specific applications, such as in the well-known field of Metal Replacement. Light Flash Analysis (LFA) is known to be a fast, non-destructive and reliable method, which is widely used to measure key thermal properties.

One method, three thermal data: LFA measures directly the thermal diffusivity, allows for determination of the specific heat and calculates the thermal conductivity, when also the density of the material is known.

In 2017, DOMO Engineering Materials (EM) started an intensive screening on the impact of different additives on their polyamides. This screening led to the creation of more than 200 formulations, which were extensively tested with the LFA 467 HyperFlash® thanks to the collaboration with NETZSCH. The following article presents DOMO’s acquired expertise and summarizes the obtained results, also introducing some key applications of the newly developed materials.
