The leading global trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry has drawn to a close on Wednesday. Approximately 3,330 exhibitors from 63 nations showed that plastics continue to be an innovative, indispensable and future-oriented material. 225,000 visitors from 165 countries informed themselves about recycling systems, sustainable raw materials and resource-saving processes.
Sustainability as the leading theme
Sustainability was the focus of K show 2019 in Düsseldorf. In the run-up to the beginning of the show on 16th October, inboxes were flooded with press releases reinforcing the topic.
EREMA GmbH established a pavilion showcasing the recycling process of thermoplastic materials and a wide range of applications for recycled materials. In the conference program of VDMA, the recycling specialist further educated the fair visitors on market potentials, challenges as well as applications for recycled materials. “In 2025, 10 million tons of recycled materials should be incorporated into new products in the European Union. In order to reach this goal, the quality of recyclates needs to be significantly improved. This is a huge challenge. It is our job to provide technologies that make it possible to reach this goal”, stated Dr. Gerold Breuer, Head of Marketing at EREMA.
Additionally, the international manufacturer of injection molding machinery ENGEL AUSTRIA GmbH further introduced smart technology and assistant systems to increase the amount of recyclates used in injection molded parts and components.
Several raw material manufacturers adapted the leading theme of sustainability in their booth designs. For instance, Dow Europe GmbH focused on how materials science will be key to finding the solutions we need to protect valuable content, build more effectively, move more efficiently and care for ourselves more holistically.
Digital, Industry 4.0 and Automation Solutions
KraussMaffei Group, Wittmann Kunststoffgeräte GmbH, Kuka AG and many others displayed their products and developments for digital, industry 4.0 and automation solutions in a wide variety of ways.
K 2019 showed the global importance of the plastics and rubber industry and displayed solutions and opportunities for responsible handling of the materials. New technologies and systems, as well as innovative business models, lead the way to the future.
